Scar camouflage (paramedical tattooing) by Tara Nikbakht at Tara Beauty Studio, 1979 Marine Drive, North Vancouver. New service · price by consultation · private, discreet studio.
Scar camouflage is a paramedical tattoo technique that uses carefully matched skin-tone pigments to blend a healed scar or light patch of skin with the surrounding area. The goal is to make the scar less visible so you feel more comfortable and confident.
What scar camouflage can help with
- Healed surgical scars (lighter than surrounding skin)
- Injury and accident scars that are flat and fully healed
- Light or hypopigmented areas, after assessment
- Scars in the scalp, which can also be blended with scalp micropigmentation
Who is a good candidate
- The scar is fully healed – usually at least 12 months old – and no longer pink or red
- The scar is flat or slightly indented, not raised
- Not suitable for keloid scars, open wounds, active skin conditions, or during pregnancy
- If you are under medical care for the area, get your doctor’s approval first
What to expect
- Consultation – Tara examines the scar, discusses realistic results and tests the colour match.
- Treatment – pigment is placed in thin layers to build the match gradually.
- Follow-up sessions – usually 2 or more sessions several weeks apart.
Healing and aftercare
The area may be red for a few days and the colour looks darker at first. Keep it clean and dry, do not pick, avoid swimming and sun, and use SPF once healed. The true colour match is visible after about 4–6 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
What is scar camouflage tattooing?
Scar camouflage, also called paramedical tattooing, uses skin-tone pigments to blend the colour of a healed, flat scar or light patch with the surrounding skin so it is less noticeable.
Which scars can be treated?
Fully healed, flat or slightly indented scars that are lighter than your skin are the best candidates, for example surgical, injury or some stretch-mark areas. Raised keloid scars and fresh scars are not suitable.
How old does a scar need to be?
In general a scar should be fully healed and settled, which usually takes at least 12 months. Tara will assess your scar at a consultation.
How much does scar camouflage cost?
Price depends on the size and type of the scar and is given after a consultation. Send a photo by text to 604-724-9693 for a first assessment.
How many sessions are needed?
Most scars need 2 or more sessions spaced several weeks apart to build a natural colour match.
